More About Our New Employment Grant
-
To assist a previously unemployed member of your household who has been offered a job but who cannot accept the job until someone makes payment on that person's behalf for a work-related expense directly related to the job s/he has been offered (like the renewal of a professional license); or
-
To remit payment for JUST ONE of your regular monthly expenses (like your rent) because someone in your household who was previously unemployed has returned to work less than 30 days ago, and even though your household income will permanently increase in the future, at present, your household needs help to 'catch up' on a single, specific bill.
These are the only two circumstances under which Modest Needs makes New Employment grants. If neither of two situations described above actually applies to your household, you should NOT apply for this grant.
- You meet the basic eligibility requirements described on our Applicant FAQ;
- Your household is currently facing one of the two situations described above;
- Your household currently does NOT meet our Self-Sufficiency Standard (more details on our Applicant FAQ);
- The work-related expense or regular bill with which you qualify to request assistance under this program can be paid on your behalf, directly to a vendor;
- The work-related expense with which you need assistance can be paid in full for no more than the maximum grant for which your household qualifies from Modest Needs; and
- You can provide us with documentation to substantiate what you tell us in your application about your household's income, situation, and the expense with which you need assistance from Modest Needs under our New Employment Grant Program.
New Employment grants cannot be used to remit payment for an expense that might or might not have the effect of returning an individual to work, or to remit payment for regular expenses for persons who currently are unemployed and looking for work, but who have not yet been offered a job.
For example, an unemployed individual who is requesting assistance to afford a monthly car payment so that he or she can look for work would not be a good candidate for a New Employment grant from Modest Needs.
