My Son Shot & Killed My Husband in Front of Me & Now I'm Severely Traumatized. I'm Facing Shut Off!

My Story:

I am a 48-year-old widow and mother of two. I married my high school sweetheart; we were together for 39 years. I also have three grandsons. Sadly, my grandparents and parents have all passed away, and since I was an only child, I have no one left that can help care for me in times of crisis. I was a public-school bus driver for over six years but am on unpaid leave at the moment.

On the 25th of November, my husband and I celebrated our anniversary, and less than a week later, on December 1st, my 30-year-old son shot my husband 7 times in front of my daughter and I. It happened right outside in our yard and my husband was able to escape back into our residence. Even though my love made it to the hospital, the damage was already done. He was declared deceased just after midnight, and my son was arrested two days later. My son is awaiting sentencing, but he is being held without bond. I am going to be spending the rest of my life without my best friend, and I am suffering nonstop every day from extreme anxiety, grief, depression, weight loss, and PTSD. It took me a long time to be able to return to my house because I could not stop thinking about my husband bleeding out on the kitchen floor. I miss him every day and can't believe my son did something like this; it feels like I'm in a nightmare I'll never wake up from.

I am currently under the care of my primary care doctor, psychiatrist, and therapist. I am in too fragile of a mental state to return to my job now; I would put many kids' safety at risk if I was driving them around like this. Sadly, I did not qualify for paid leave from my job because I had only started this new bus driving position 3 days before the incident. School is out for Summer now, so until school starts again, I will not be working. After losing time at work and paying my medical expenses, I do not have the financial means to cover the amount due on my electric bill. My lights will be shut off in a few days, and I just want to be able to live in peace. I applied for crisis assistance and was found to be eligible, but then I was told there were no funds available. This really is my last hope at keeping my head above water.

I'm asking for your help to get current with the electric company. This assistance will be a huge weight off my shoulders and permit me to keep grieving. My daughter is only 24 and has Type 1 Diabetes, so she is limited in how she can help. This act of kindness will keep my house functional, so I can focus on healing from the most traumatic experience of my life. I will never forget your kindness; it will truly be a light of hope for me through this devastation. Thank you.
