I'm the Guardian of My Sister After Our Mom Died. After a Mental Health Emergency, We're Drowning!
My Story:
I live with my 2 kitties, Leona and Cali. My family moved to Arizona from Texas in 2016, leaving me behind. Shortly after that, my mom's breast cancer came back, and she passed 3 months before I would have been able to swing moving to Arizona to care for her. I had promised to take guardianship of my sister with down syndrome should my mom pass away, so I ended up moving to Arizona anyway.
After moving, it took me 8 months to find a job, and once I did, a supervisor assaulted me. HR swept it under the rug, and I was continually harassed at work. As you can imagine, this was a horrifying experience and my coworkers' commentary only made it worse. I felt trapped because I was out of options after 8 months of unemployment. Additionally, I was still recovering from a car accident where a drunk driver hit me, and all of these things came together horribly. I was forced to check myself into a mental hospital after battling daily suicidal thoughts. I was diagnosed with PTSD, but thankfully, I was able to get the care I needed. Unfortunately, I only received 65% of my pay during that 5-month period I was in the hospital. My disability payments were delayed twice during this time, causing my car to get repossessed. I reached out to numerous organizations for help, but I was not eligible for any assistance because my income is slightly over the poverty line. I am just trying to get back on my feet for my sister and I, but it will be impossible without some help.
I am asking for assistance with my car note, phone bill, and car insurance, so I may cover my rent. I am 2 months behind, and even though my landlord has been working with me, she will need to move forward with eviction proceedings soon. I returned to work 2 weeks ago, but I am so far behind. I just need a little more time for a paycheck or two to come in, and I will be able to stay on top of things going forward. This help will be life changing. I will be able to work toward the financial goal of going back to school instead of just trying to stay above water all the time. I will not have to choose between homelessness with my kitties or losing my car for a second time, and I will be able to be a better guardian to my sister. I will be forever grateful for this help.
