My Son Passed Away on My Birthday. After We Paid for His Funeral, We Couldn't Pay Our Mortgage!

My Story:

My husband and I are empty-nesters. He's a retired truck driver, and I work part-time teaching basic life skills to special-needs adults. We have six children between us.

One of my sons passed away on December 31, 2022 which was my birthday. My husband and I are still struggling with my son's death both emotionally and financially. Apparently, he didn't have any life insurance, and paying for his funeral wiped out what little savings we had.

Then, this summer, I missed a whole month of work due to my school not offering summer classes. I normally teach all summer long. We only get paid once a month as it is, and losing that month of income that just made things that much harder harder. Now, we need to have a truck repair and it's made our financial situation even worse. It's scary and stressful, and I lose sleep over feeling like we're on the brink of a real disaster.

Thanks to these events, we're now in a no-win situation. We need to pay our mortgage to keep our home, but we can't pay our mortgage if my husband can't get to work, and he can't get to work if we don't fix his truck. We just don't have the money to do pay for both of these bills, but if we don't find a way to pay them both, we're going to lose our home.

That's why I'm really hoping Modest Needs can help us to pay just one mortgage payment so that we can afford to fix our truck. That help would basically put an end to the year-long financial nightmare that began with the death of my son, put us back on track, and allow us to heal emotionally without the threat of hoemlessness looming over our head. Thank you for thinking of us and helping if you can.
