This person has left the following thank you note:
I would like to take the time to thank everyone who took the time to read my application and donated. I can not tell you how relieved I am that I will be able to make the car payment needed to avoid repossession. Just starting a new job losing my car would be the worst thing that could happen. I will also be able to apply some of the money to my electric bill to avoid disconnection as well. I have never been in a situation like this before. It is frightening. I have spent hours and hours on the computer searching for help and have discovered resources that most people do not know about. Because I would not give up and kept researching I discovered ModestNeeds.Org. What a wonderful organization this is. I am now informing the legal aid local social services, eviction mediation, etc. of the resources I have found that were not on any list they provided. Please let your friends and family know that this site exists for people who want to donate or someone you know needs help. Your donations have literally put me over a hurdle that I didn't I was going to be able resolve. Thank you with all my heart. Andreana
My Husband Just Passed Away After Battling Lung Cancer. Now, My Car is About to Be Reposessed!
My Story:
I live alone and have two yorkies: Icie Matilda and Trooper Dan. My husband recently passed, so I don't know what I would do without them. I have a 3-year-old granddaughter named Frankie Jean. Unfortunately, I do not get to see her much, but she is a beautiful child and full of spunk. I have been out of work this year, but the good news is I will finally start a new job soon. I am very excited.
Since my husband passed, I have struggled financially. His pension was over half of our household income. His retirement fund sent me a letter stating that I would receive 25% of his pension monthly. However, a few months later, when I still had not received anything, I was told that I did not qualify for the benefit until I was 62 years of age, and I am currently 58. He was diagnosed with lung cancer during COVID, and I had to take FMLA to care for him. My employer had to downsize significantly during COVID, so when I was ready to return, there was no longer a position for me. My husband's life insurance was minimal, as it was all we could afford. I used it to attempt to get caught up on bills from being out of work, but it wasn't enough. I just can't get over that hurdle that will give me financial stability. My new job is a blessing, and I am finally at the cusp of turning things around. I just need some additional assistance to get me there.
I recently got a flat tire and am using the spare. I live in the Columbus area, and although my new job will be local, I have to go down to Cincinnati for training. I can't drive there on a spare tire, and I do not have the money for a new, or even used, one. Not only that, but I am behind on my car payments, and my car could be repossessed at any time. If I don't have a vehicle, I don't have a job. I do not live on a bus line, so public transportation is not an option. Between the tire, keeping my car, and everything else, I am extremely worried that the job will fall through. Since my first week of training is in Cincinnati, I need reliable transportation to get there. They are paying for my hotel room for the week, but I do not want to have to tell them that I can go because I have no way to get there.
This one-time assistance will get me over the immediate hurdle I'm facing and allow me to begin my new job. This job is the catalyst that will allow me to regain financial stability. It will take me a good year to fully recover, but I will be on the right track. I am entering my 60s soon, and I am terrified of what my future will be if I can't get back on my feet. Your help would be a godsend, and it will give me peace of mind.
