I'm a First Responder and Lost Work When My Baby Was in the NICU. Now We Are Months Behind!
My Story:
I am a married father of two amazing kids and first responder. I have been one for over 6 years and am very committed. My son was just born last year, and he has brought so much happiness to our lives. When he was born, he unfortunately spent quite a bit of time in the NICU. He pulled through, though, and is now growing every day! My daughter has special needs and is the sweetest little girl I know. We have spent the last several months helping her find therapists and doctors for her autism. She struggles with speech but never with love and affection. My wife is a stay-at-home mom, and she ensures our daughter has every appointment she needs while also caring for our son.
We have never had to request help before and have always helped others. We have been living paycheck to paycheck, but we can usually afford our basic needs. I lost a lot of work when my son was in the NICU caring for him and my wife after she had pregnancy complications. She was in the hospital for all of April and had to have an emergency c-section. I tried my hardest to pick up extra shifts while simultaneously taking care of my whole family. I was barely keeping up when our mortgage suddenly increased. I was already behind on bills that set me back even further, and I couldn't seem to catch up. We are 4 months behind on our water bill and 3 months behind on our car payments. Without our car, we can't take our daughter to her therapy. We recently lost power, but thankfully, I was able to get us on a payment plan.
We are asking for assistance with our water and car bills. I am trying to make as many small payments as I can, but we fell behind too much. I have been forced to prioritize our mortgage payments, as we have nowhere else to go.
This one-time kindness will bring us current and give us stability. As a first responder, I have always loved helping others, and I have always been fortunate to be able to help many in the past. I know people struggle sometimes and just need a helping hand. Being able to provide that to people has been a blessing. Now I am hoping I can have a helping hand. My family will be forever grateful for this kindness.
