User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeI want to tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of you. These last few months have been extremely difficult for me financially. I almost had to take a break from school so I could get another job on top of the one I already have, and because of you I don't have to do that. There are not enough words to express how much this is helping my daughter and I, and no amount of 'thanks' could be enough. You are truly a blessing that I will never forget. Thank you so much for helping me and restoring my faith in humanity. Thank you, thank you, thank you. -Katherine

I'm a Single Mom and Had to Pay For My Father's Cremation. Now My Daughter and I Are Facing Eviction

My Story:

I am a single mom to a beautiful 10-year-old girl who I homeschool. I work full time for an alarm company, and I go to school full-time pursuing my bachelor's degree in IT + project management with a minor in programming. We have 3 cats and 1 dog, and we spend most of our time at home hanging out with each other, having dance parties in the kitchen, and making art.

In the beginning of January, my dad, who I haven't seen or heard from in over a decade, was found deceased due to an overdose. He was homeless and living in a tent outside of a church which is where his body was found. I was the only family member they could find, and since I was next of kin, financial responsibility fell onto me. I had to break the news to his family. I used my savings as well as a withdrawal from my 401K to be able to pay for his cremation. Two days after finding out he died, I received an eviction notice because I was unable to pay the rent after all of this. I was able to scrape the money together to avoid eviction, but that meant that my other bills had to be paid late. Then, in May of this year, my aunt was in the hospital on life support which caused me to miss some work. I spent time at the hospital, so my aunt would not be alone. While at the hospital, my electricity was turned off since I had to delay payment. Now that I have paid my electric bill to get it back on, I have received another notice for my rent, or I am facing eviction again. The saying 'when it rains, it pours' is a real thing, but lately, I feel like I am stuck in a tsunami.

This one-time assistance will make it so that my daughter and I do not have to wonder where we will go. I have been a single parent since she was born, and I have always worked hard to keep a roof over our heads. I have always found a way out of tough situations. However, after so many things happening in a short amount of time, I have exhausted all other options and do not know what else to do. This kindness would mean the world to me and my daughter.
