I Had To Amputate My Leg for a Chance At A Normal Life With My Kids. Now I Can't Pay My Rent!

My Story:

I am the proud wife of my high school sweetheart. We've been married for 14 years and have 2 beautiful children - a 12-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl. We love music, as my husband is a drummer. We attend a lot of concerts and music festivals. We love to play in the water, go kayaking, fishing, camping, and getting to know the nature around us. My husband is a nurse and clinical educator for new nurses. I work part time with a local solar energy company.

I became an amputee this past March. I made a difficult decision to amputate my right leg below the knee. I've had 8 reconstructive ankle surgeries in the last 17 years and after all of that, the doctors said my ankle wasn't salvageable any longer. I was looking at 6 or 7 more surgeries to get up to 40% mobility still leaving me with having to amputate in my 60s. Alternatively, I could do it now while I've got my strength. I decided I don't want to live life on the sidelines anymore, and this is going to be my best shot at living a life I can be proud of. My family deserves a mom/wife that can go on bike rides, swimming, exploring, and dancing. Amputation is obviously a last resort, but I have no choice but to make this work. Sadly, it comes with a lot of medical bills, therapies, home and car modifications, prosthetics, etc. Every cent raised is going towards making this new life a little bit more accessible.

Since I have been recovering and unable to work, the financial stress has hit hard, especially because my husband has had to take time off to care for me as well. I am asking for some help with my medical bills. The stress of everything has caused many sleepless nights, as new expenses are popping up left and right.

It will help us focus on my recovery. I want to be able to have a solid foundation to build up the rest of my life, and this would help tremendously with that! I try to make a positive ripple effect everywhere I go, and as of late, that obviously has been hard. With this kindness, however, it can help me make a difference for not only myself and my family but my community, too.
