My Son Moved Back in With Me Due to His Mental Health, but I'm Struggling to Support Us!
My Story:
I am a single mother, and I have two sons. My youngest son, who is 22 years old, now lives with me in a one bedroom apartment after not getting the proper care and treatment for his mental illness (schizophrenia) while living with his dad. Because he is currently unable to work, I am the sole provider for both of us. We have applied for disability, and it has been almost a year and we still have not received a decision. I do the best I can, but there are a lot of days that are very hard, and I would be lying if I said I didn't feel like giving up sometimes. Still, I have so much faith in God that it keeps me going.
In October 2022, I had to have a total hip replacement due to severe arthritis and that took me out of work for nearly two months. Being that my income is the only means we have to pay our bills, we started to fall behind. Now I did receive short term disability while on leave, but that was not nearly enough to cover all of my bills. I was paying just enough on all of our bills to keep us above water, and now I'm struggling to catch up even though I'm back at work.
I'm behind on our car payment right now, and if we lose our vehicle, I'll lose my job. In fact, my health will also suffer because I won't be able to get to and from my physical therapy appointments, and I also won't be able to get my son to his regular psychiatrist appointments. For the sake of our health and my employment, I'm very humbly asking for assistance with our car payment so that we can keep our only vehicle. We would be so grateful for this assistance, and I promise that we will look for a way to pay it forward when we're in a better financial situation.
