After Being Forced Out of Our Home Due to Gun Violence, We Need Help Keeping Our New Home Please!

My Story:

I'm a 25 year old student, and I'm a biology major about to start my last semester of college. I'm living at home while I work on my degree, and I'm living with my mother. My mom just started a new job as a custodian last week, but before that she was unemployed for over a month, so we were struggling during that time. My dream is to graduate in May 2023 with my bachelor's and hopefully start medical school shortly after! I'm very excited for what the future holds, but a short-term hardship has me and my mother on the brink of homelessness.

A few months back, our home was shot up in a drive-by shooting, so for the sake of our safety, we had to move immediately. I was able to find an apartment that was supposed to be a temporary solution until we could move back into our home, but our house kept winding up as collateral damage in the gun violence that has plagued our neighborhood. As a result, we had to make this apartment our primary residence. Since moving into this apartment, I had to quit school for a semester to help support us financially. At first both my mom and I were working, but recently she lost her job and has been unemployed for a few months. After all of that, I was in a car accident at my job and had to miss a few days due to a back injury, so my paycheck was very short. The person that hit me didn't have insurance, so I had to cover all the expenses to get my car repaired out of pocket. All of those incidents have combined to cause us to fall behind on our rent, and now we're about to lose our home.

With me and my mom both working, we'll be able to keep up with our bills going forward, but we desperately need help covering our rent in the meantime. I'm very humbly asking for help with our rent, as it will give us a chance to get back on our feet. I'll be able to focus on school and on graduating, and I know that when we're in a better position we'll look to pay it forward in the near future. Thank you.
