I Battled Alcohol Abuse for Years. I'm Sober Now, but a Medical Issue is Going to Make Me Homeless!

My Story:

I am a professional photographer, and I was running a successful business for over 20 years before that. However, COVID-19 bankrupted my business in 2020, and I began to struggle with substance abuse. My alcoholism became chronic, and I have spent the last two years in and out of treatment facilities and hospitals. After battling for a very long time, I'm now 9 months sober, and I finally feel like my life is back on track. I decided that I couldn't recover on my own, so I moved to be closer to my family and that has been a blessing. I work just under 40 hours per week at Costco now, and that has been very good for my financial stability as well as my overall stability. I go to recovery meetings and practice all the principles of my recovery program on a daily basis. I now have serenity!

Over the last two years, I have made little money, as I have been in and out of treatment centers and hospitals. To add to my financial struggles, I now have a large amount of medical debt. Upon being hired at Costco, I made enough money to pay my monthly expenses with just a little money left over for saving. I was also approved for some added employee benefits. However, just before my benefits were about to kick in, including temporary disability insurance, I developed a worsening inguinal hernia. Over time, it became an emergency situation that needed surgery as soon as possible. I just got the surgery done, and I'm returning to work very soon, but I went without pay for almost two months, and as a result, I'm behind on my rent by about two months.

For the first time in a very long time, I'm on the right path, but I'm afraid that my financial instability will derail all of the progress that I've made. I'm very confident in my ability to remain sober going forward, and I'm not worried about that in the slightest. However, I am worried about becoming homeless and the long road back that I will face if I'm evicted. For that reason, I'm very humbly asking for assistance with keeping my home. I would be deeply appreciative of this help, and I also appreciate the consideration and understanding shown to me by the wonderfully kind people who take the time to read my story.
