My Children & I Fled Domestic Violence, but Now We're Facing Homelessness! Please Help Us!

My Story:

I'm a single mom, and I have two boys at home, ages 7 and 9 years old. My oldest has very severe autism and requires therapy. Both of my boys are incredibly sweet, happy, and loving, and I'm so proud to be their mother. My youngest son always does such a good job of helping his older brother, and they're always there for each other. As a single mother, it can be difficult, but I try my best every day to do all I can for them and our small family.

My sons and I recently escaped a very violent and abusive situation, and we have battled to get our lives back on track after fleeing. After uprooting our lives in order to escape violence, I don't have anything left to handle emergency situations, or really even just everyday bills. While we've been able to find a new home, I can't cover the rent that we currently owe after relocating. On top of that, our old home was so damaged that we weren't able to get our security deposit back. That was almost entirely my ex's doing, and it effectively cost me almost $3,000. I work full-time, and I regularly work close to 70 hours per week so that we can try to catch up and cover our expenses, but in spite of that, we're behind on our rent and need urgent help.

It took so much to get us a new home, and now that we're on the brink of losing it, all of the fear that we felt mere months ago has come rushing back. If we end up losing our home, I don't know where we'll go other than to a shelter. A homeless shelter is no place for young children, especially one who has severe autism. With all of that weighing on us, I'm very humbly asking for assistance with our rent. It would keep us safe and secure in our home as we continue to rebuild our lives after fleeing abuse.
