I'm Struggling to Keep Our Lights On Because I Need To Get Us a New Car After Ours Broke Down!

My Story:

I am a single mom of five children. I am a kindergarten teacher, a tutor, and I have a mobile spray tan business on the side in order to supplement our income. My 25-year-old is my oldest and lives on her own. My only son is 22 years old and is attending college while also golfing for his school. My 20-year-old daughter is working at Dairy Queen and loves exercise and fitness. COVID changed her college plans, and she chose to take some time off and work. My youngest two daughters are 18 and 15 years old. My 18-year -old is a senior in high school who plays violin and piano, and she plans to attend college in the fall. My 15-year-old is a freshman who loves her friends and cheerleading. You might say she is my princess.

I have been separated and finally divorced for four years. During this time, I have been supporting the basic needs of my four children who are at home. It wasn't until August that I began receiving minimal child support. I am living paycheck to paycheck as a result. There are always unexpected payments for the children and household. Recently I got a screw in my tire which could not be fixed, and I needed over $3200 of work for my car to pass inspection. I did not have the money to fix it, so I sold it back and am trying to find a used car with the small equity I received. I'm working hard to put my family in a better position, but no matter what I do, it seems like situations like having to repair my car come up every time I think we're stable.

Because I have to have a working vehicle, I have been setting aside money I would use to pay our electric bill in order to find a car for us. As a result, we're behind on our electric bill, and I'm worried that our power is going to be shut-off before I'm able to get us caught up on my own. I tried to work out a payment plan with the utility company, but they won't budge. I'm very humbly asking for assistance with this bill because it will allow us to both find a new vehicle and keep our lights on, and for that, we would be very grateful. Thank you.
