After Being Diagnosed with Leukemia, My Family Needs Help Keeping Our Home Please!
My Story:
I am a married mother of two amazing children. My 11 year old daughter is full of life and loves to sing. My 21-year-old son loves to make music. My daughter is always so happy when she gets to spend time with her older brother because she does not get to see him all the time anymore. They are the greatest joy in my life.
Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Leukemia and lost my job due to being hospitalized for so long. I was a social worker who helped families come out of homelessness. I loved my job, and I miss it dearly, but due to extent of my treatment, I am not able to work for a minimum of 2 years. This has placed such a huge financial burden on our family, and we have used up all of our savings just trying to get by on one income. Now, we are in need of help because we're on the verge of losing our home.
We're very humbly seeking assistance with our rent because we're about to fall behind. The rising costs of medicine, my treatments, utilities, car payment, and the repairs we recently did on our vehicle have made it impossible for us to keep up with our bills. We are now being forced to choose between paying the rent and buying groceries. We are worried that we may end up losing our residence unless we can somehow get back on track.
Staying current on our rent is extremely important for my family and for my health. I currently am waiting for a scheduled appointment with the Social Security office to apply of Social Security benefits. Those benefits will help us in the long-term, but in the short-term, I focused on trying to keep our home. This generous help would give us the hand up that we need to press through this most difficult time. Thank you.
