I'm a Veterinarian, & My Hours Have Been Cut Due to a Lack of Doctors. Please Help Us Keep Our Home!
My Story:
I am a single mother of two kids. My daughter is grown and off on her own. I have a 17-year-old son at home who is a full-time student. I have raised both of my children on my own without any financial help from their father. I have always put them first and I was able to raise them, though not without struggle from time to time. I am proud to say that my daughter is grown, working, and about to graduate college. My son is a big help around the house, making time for his friends and basketball as well. We have two cats that we rescued from a shelter, one is almost 16 years old and the other is 6 years old. Together, we enjoy watching scary movies and stand-up comedy. I am also in my 4th semester of school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
I have been able to take care of us with my full-time job as a veterinary technician/shift lead. However, in May of 2020 I hurt my back at work, which resulted in me having to get spinal surgery in late 2020. I was able to get by with the little savings that I had, and my employers helped with short-term disability until I was able to return to work a few months later. Since then, I have had to catch up on medical bills revolving around the surgery and my doctor visits. We have been living paycheck to paycheck since then. My employer has also been having to cut hours due to a lack of doctors to support the rest of the staff. As a result of this reduction in hours, my family came up short on our rent last month, and we need help if we're going to keep our home.
My family needs help with one month of rent, and I believe that this help will keep us in our home and still allow me to buy the things my family needs like groceries and to pay our other bills such as power. I worry that if we don't get help, we could be evicted with nowhere to go. I don't have enough on my check to pay the rent and be able to get us groceries for the next few weeks or other household items like bathroom essentials. However, I know that we can make it through this short-term hardship if we can get caught up on our rent. Thank you to everyone who lends us a very generous hand with keeping our home.
