I'm Downsizing After Battling Cancer, but I Need Help Covering My Old Rent Please!

My Story:

I'm a single man living on my own, and I just recently retired. Prior to retirement, I was working at the local university where I was in the student affairs division doing event planning, directing programs, making graphics, and advising student organizations. After I retired from that job, I started working doing part-time clerical work and gig work as well. I really enjoyed the work that I was doing part-time, but I had to fully retire when the first of the COVID lockdowns began. At the time, I didn't know whether or not I would return, but then in May 2021, my decision was made for me when I was diagnosed with cancer.

Since my diagnosis, I have undergone radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and several surgeries. I'm still recovering from all of that, but at this time, I'm cancer free. However, during my battle with cancer, I wasn't able to work, and it was difficult to cover all of my medical bills on top of all of my other monthly bills. As a result, I started to fall behind on my rent, and I eventually had to find a way to downsize. Fortunately, I was able to find assistance with finding a new home thanks to some of our local Catholic charities. However, after paying for moving expenses and my medical bills, I can't afford to catch up on the rent that I owe at my old apartment, so I'm very humbly asking for assistance with catching up on that past due rent.

Cutting my rent by moving into subsidized housing and paying less than half what I pay now will ease my mind about being able to support myself in the long term, but still, the debt that I owe to my previous landlord is really threatening my stability. He has been patient thus far, but if I can't keep up soon, I'm worried that he'll take me to court and that it could have major consequences on my long-term financial situation. With that in mind, I would be very grateful for this assistance with the rent that I owe to my old landlord.
