User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeThank you, from the bottom of our hearts. We have struggled very much with my unexpected retirement from the military and have been working very hard to keep my health managed as well as provide for our son. I was beginning to lose hope that anything would work out for us, until I saw that our cause had been funded. This will get us caught up and on our feet and is the greatest blessing we could have gotten right now. I also got a job today, so this will help us until I get that first paycheck. Again, thank you so much for your help and willingness to give us the hope and help we so desperately needed. I feel hopeful that our luck is turning around and we may be ok after all.

We're Recently Retired Veterans & We Need Help Keeping Our Young Son in Daycare Please!

My Story:

I'm a retired veteran, and a married mother of one wonderful son. My husband is also a retired veteran, and since leaving the army, we've struggled to find stability for our family. We have moved nine times in the past year and used every penny we had left to finally get a place of our own close to family. So, while we're on track towards finally finding some stability, we're still struggling because I'm unable to work due to complications that I've experienced after having a surgery while in the army. My husband is also a disabled veteran, and even though he's trying to find a job, he hasn't had any luck for months now. On top of that, since we just moved, he isn't able to collect unemployment benefits, and I also haven't been able to secure social security disability benefits either. I applied back in December, but I haven't heard anything for months now.

We have been relying almost entirely on our VA benefits, but those barely cover our bills and food for the month. This has left us extremely vulnerable to unexpected expenses, so when our car broke down this month, it caused us to fall behind. On top of our car breaking down, it's registration also expired, so we had to pay to have that renewed as well. I have many doctors' appointments and am unable to drive myself most days, so we unfortunately had no choice but to spend this money on the car this month instead of our bills.

As a result of the hard ship we're facing, we need help paying for our son's daycare. I often have difficulty taking care of myself, and we decided to place my son in school so that he can socialize more easily as well as to allow my husband to get back to work, as we needed the income. His week is typically filled with taking me to appointments, doing schoolwork in order to get his GI Bill money, and attending job interviews. Typically, we can afford it just fine, but this month was filled with sudden and unexpected expenses, and we have no savings left after buying our home. I'm worried that my son will be kicked out of his daycare program soon, so I'm very humbly asking for assistance with catching up. Having this assistance will buy us the time that we need to get back on our feet, as my husband will be returning to school and receiving GI benefits soon. Most importantly of all, my son will be able to remain in his daycare program with his peers.
