I'm Struggling to Adjust to Life on My Own After Leaving My Abusive Husband. Please Help!

My Story:

I'm a 68-year-old disabled woman, and I recently retried from working as a public school teacher. I was a teacher for 22 years, and I still try to substitute when I can in order to supplement my retirement income. I'm living on my own now after I had to have my husband removed from our home due to his physical and emotional abuse. I was married to him for 17 years, and as time went on the abuse got worse; eventually, it reached a point where I could no longer remain idle, so I decided to force him out of our home.

While I'm grateful to have survived and escaped the abuse that I suffered at the hands of my husband, I'm struggling to remain self-sufficient now that I'm reliant on just my income alone. My retirement benefits aren't enough to get me through the month, and normally, I substitute teach in order to cover the rest of my expenses, but this summer I haven't been able to do that. I've been relying on food banks and SNAP benefits just to put food on the table, and I'm in a really desperate position right now. This month, without the income I make substituting, I've had to sacrifice paying my electric bill in order to put food on the table and keep my home. In just a matter of weeks, my power will be shut-off unless I can catch up, so I'm humbly asking for help with my electric bill please.

While living on a fixed income and without the support of my husband, I can't afford to catch up on my electric bill for this month. I'm worried that I'm going to have my power shut-off before I'm able to start working as a substitute in the Fall. I would be very thankful for the assistance that I receive with this electric bill, and I will never forget the kind and generous people who lifted me back up when I needed it most.
