This person has left the following thank you note:

User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeFirst and foremost, I would like to say how humbly grateful I am to the people around the world and across the country; who took time to read my story and hear my cry for help. I received devastating news 5 months ago and have since accepted my treatment plan and began my fight for survival and my will to live. My fight begins with a timeline in mind and trying to put cancer behind me. I have had few set backs over the past 2 months (low white blood cell count) which has delayed my treatment and delayed my timeline on at least 3 occasions. I continue to fight and wonder how many more rounds do I have in me? How many more brave faces do I have to put on. No one asks to have breast cancer, but a positive attitude is the key. Today, when I received the email form the Modest Needs Organization saying that I was awarded support, this literally brought tears to my eyes. Not being able to work, struggling to support my children and pay my bills has been devastating and depressing. I'm a 47 year woman, a mother of twin girls, who just wants the fight to end so that I can return to work, not have to go to the doctor every week and begin healing. This wonderful and fantastic news gives me a renewed sense of faith and strength to continue my fight. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is truly an answer to my prayers. God Bless you and a million thanks.

A Cancer Diagnosis Has Kept Me from Starting My New Job as a Teacher. Please Help Us Keep Our Home!

My Story:

I'm a newly hired teacher and the mother of two teenage daughters. My oldest just graduated college early, and my youngest is 17 years old. I'm raising them both on my own as a single mother, and as the head of the household, they rely on me to provide for them. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and since then, my family has been struggling.

As I said earlier, I'm a newly hired teacher, and I haven't accumulated any sick days. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I had to take five weeks off of work and haven't been receiving a paycheck during that time. Truly, the diagnosis couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm just starting a new job and trying to get a consistent paycheck, and on top of that I'm trying to help my daughters continue their educations and provide for them as best as I can. It's been difficult to focus on getting healthy again while I'm also trying to provide for my family. My greatest worry though is that I'm not going to be able to keep up with our mortgage this month.

In the coming weeks and months, I have to undergo chemotherapy, reconstruction surgery, and radiation therapy. I'm going to miss more work as a result, and after having already missed weeks of work, I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to keep up with our mortgage as a result. This diagnosis has derailed so much of our lives already, and losing our home would be a devastating, unbearable blow to my family. So, I'm very humbly asking for assistance with our mortgage payment as I continue to recover and get back to working consistently. If we receive this help, I'll be able to focus on getting healthy again, and we won't have to live in constant fear of losing our home.
