Modest Needs Donors you have been so amazing and gracious to my family during this really difficult time in our lives. My son was recently diagnosed with Autism and both my grandmother and father are living with me and are disabled. My daughter is a diligent Straight A student and is determined to get into UC Berkeley and be a part of the STEM program while enrolled at the university. Your kindness and help have allowed my family to keep the lights on in our home and provide for my family!! I am writing this with tears in my eyes because your donations have alleviated a burden off of my shoulders. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you for your kindness and gracious donations. We are so honored and thankful that you decided to help our family. Your help has allowed me to realize that there is still humanity and love in the world. Truly, all you need is love. Thank you so much, from Karla, Allena, Alexander and Bernice.

I'm Caring for My Kids & Father on My Own. Please Help Me keep Our Lights On!

My Story:

I am a single mother of two wonderful children, and I currently am in the process of divorcing my second husband. My 16-year-old daughter is a straight-A student who will be entering her senior year of high school this upcoming semester with an eye towards attending college the following year. My 9-year-old son was recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and is strong, loving, caring, and just an all-around wonderful kid. In addition to my children, my elderly father also lives with us. After the unfortunate and untimely death of my amazing mother in 2019, I had to take on the role as the full-time caregiver for my 71-year-old father. In 2015, my father, unfortunately, had a massive stroke that caused him to lose function of the right side of his body.

Normally, to maintain our bills and be somewhat financially comfortable, I would do part-time driving for Uber Eats. Unfortunately, my van began to make a very worrisome sound, and after taking it to my local mechanic, I was told that it would cost almost $1,000 to fix the A/C Compressor and to stop the rattling in my engine. On top of that expense, our rent has also recently gone up, and now we're on a very tight budget. I can't cover our electric bill right now, so I'm humbly asking for assistance before we have our service shut-off.

My father and children are relying on me to keep up with our bills and to provide for them, so it's difficult for me right now because I feel like I'm falling short of that. I don't know what to do if our lights are shut-off, but I do know that with this short-term assistance, I'll be able to keep moving forward for the sake of my family. If we're able to receive this help, my biggest priority will be to return the favor to the community, and I promise that we'll do that as soon as we're able.
