I'm a Veteran Struggling to Find Work After My Vehicle Broke Down! Please Help!
My Story:
I'm a single mother and a disabled veteran, and I'm raising my 17-year-old daughter alone. She suffers from a congenital heart defect and severe Lyme disease, but she tries not to let either slow her down. My daughter and I love to travel around the country, and it's really important to her because it gives her some much-needed reprieve from her conditions. I won't lie, the past few years have been full of hardship for my daughter and I, but no matter how bad things get we still manage to always be there for each other. Somehow, we also always manage to take care of the neighborhood street cats, who have slowly turned into our house cats!
Prior to a restructure and then the pandemic hitting, I had a wonderful job that I enjoyed doing and that gave my daughter and I a relatively comfortable life. Originally, I moved my daughter and I out to Indiana for a dream job. Six months after starting the job, the company decided to restructure, and it laid me off, along with 16 of my other coworkers. I was able to get my old job back, but then COVID hit, and my boss decided to close the business for a while. When it did open back up, we were given very limited hours. After all of that turmoil with my employment, my finances have been thrown into chaos. I can barely afford our monthly bills, and I was just scraping by when the engine in my car completely blew out in October of last year. I've been completely out of work since then, and I finally managed to put enough together to get a used car. However, it turns out the used car needs to have its transmission completely replaced, and I can't afford to do that on my own. Not having a vehicle is the one thing holding me back from finding a new job, so I'm very humbly asking for assistance with replacing my car's transmission.
While my mortgage is also behind by about 6 months (I'm on a military mortgage forbearance program), my Disabled Veteran Service Officer and I have decided the most important thing to do first is to get the transmission fixed. This would allow me to find work again, and once I can do that, I can get back to being self-sufficient again. I'll be able to work hard to catch up on our bills and to rebuild our life again. For that opportunity, I would be very grateful. Thank you all in advance for this assistance with repairing my vehicle, and I promise that we will never forget the kindness we're shown.
