User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeI want to thank all the donors from the bottom of my heart for the funding of my request for help. Now I don't have to worry about falling behind in my rent due to the time I had to have my surgery for endometrial cancer and recover from it. I really, really appreciate all you have done and it lets me know how people can be compassionate without even knowing me.

I'm Going to Miss Work While Receiving Treatment for Cancer. Please Help Me Keep My Home!

My Story:

As a single woman living on my own, I have always had to work hard to take care of myself and to remain self-sufficient. For years, I have worked as hard as I can to take care of myself, and until recently I was able to do that without interruption. Now, I'm facing the greatest interruption of my life I could have imagined, cancer.

I have been diagnosed with endometrial cancer, and my doctor has directed me to get a hysterectomy as soon as next week. Like most people would be, I'm very afraid. I'm definitely worried about my health and the battle with cancer that I have ahead of me, but I'm extremely nervous about my financial situation going into this surgery as well. I live paycheck to paycheck, and my doctor told me to expect to be out of work for 6 weeks. While my job offers FMLA, when the sick days I have run out, I'll be on unpaid leave. So for the majority of the time that I'm out of work, I won't be receiving a paycheck at all, and I'm very concerned that I'll fall behind on my rent during that time.

The last thing that I can afford is to be facing an eviction while I'm recovering from cancer. I'm up to date on my rent currently, but if I fall behind in the next month, I'll be looking at an eviction with no possible way of catching up after having been out of work for at least six weeks. Not to mention too, and God forbid, but recovering from surgery and from cancer can come with many complications. If something were to keep me out of work for longer, then I would almost certainly lose my home. Like I said, I'm afraid, but at the same time, I have faith and hope that I will beat cancer and that I will be able to get back to work again. With this generous assistance, I won't have to hope; instead, I will be secure in the knowledge that I will be able to keep my home no matter what happens. It's difficult for me to find the words to explain how grateful I would be, but for this assistance and for the kindness that I'm shown I want to say thank you, and I want to make a promise to pay this forward as well.
