I'm a Single Mother Struggling to Keep Our Home after Losing Hours at Work to COVID!
My Story:
I'm a single mother with a 14-year-old daughter at home. She's currently in the 9th grade and is working very hard in her classes. She's a wonderful student, and I'm so incredibly proud of her. I work very hard to provide for her, and currently, I'm a full-time employee at Target.
I'm classified as an essential worker, so I've been able to keep my job through the pandemic; however, due to some staffing issues, my employer has been severely limiting our hours. I've gone from working 40 hours a week or more to working just around 25 hours a week. I've had to use up all of my vacation hours in order to make up the difference, and those have all now run out. The reduction in hours began in late-November, and they haven't shown any sign of letting up. I've tried to keep up with our rent, but without the hours coming in, I've fallen behind and am currently facing an eviction. We desperately need assistance if we're going to weather the storm and keep our home.
I've already received a notice that we need to 'pay or vacate,' and our landlord is on the verge of filing an eviction against us. I'm humbly seeking this assistance with our rent because my daughter and I truly have nowhere to go if we lose our home. This generous assistance would save our home and would buy me the time that I need to find a solution with my employer, whether that means finding a second job or a new job entirely. It's been a difficult time for my daughter and I, but your generosity would see us through that hardship, and for that we would be deeply grateful.
