User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeThank you so much to all of the kind and generous people who gave me help. I am very grateful and humbled by the kindness and all the blessings from the donors being shown to me. God has been hearing my prayers! I have been struggling with my diabetes since I was diagnosed a few years ago. It became worse after the divorce. This grant will help me to finally keep the disease in check without it controlling my life. This will impede the advancement of other medical issues. Thank you again to everyone who reached out and gave to make this possible. I want to leave you with these two expression of thanks from the bible. Luke 6:45 to paraphrase it says 'and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great.' And finally Proverbs 17:19 'Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.' I wish great rewards for you all, may God bless you all and thank you.

I'm Diabetic & am 30 Days Away from Running Out of Vital Glucose Monitors! Please Help!

My Story:

I currently live alone, but I'm a father and grandfather. However, all of my children live south of me in Texas, so I don't see them as often as I'd like to, especially now because of COVID. Still, I'm very active in my community and in my church congregation. I enjoy sharing God's word with anyone who will listen.

I'm diabetic and have struggled with health issues in the past. In fact, I spent the early part of 2020 in and out of the hospital because of issues with my heart and kidneys. My diabetes had a huge impact on both of these issues as well. As a result, I had to reduce the amount of time that I could work and have struggled to maintain consistent hours. My financial situation has deteriorated as a result, and I'm struggling with a lot of my bills, but most importantly, I'm struggling to take care of my health.

As a diabetic, I have to monitor my glucose levels, but this is difficult to do with my work schedule being so haphazard. My doctor recommended a Continuous Glucose Monitor, but the cost of that is around $8,000 per year, which I just can't afford. It's also not covered by Medicaid. However, I did discover that the freestyle CGM will work for me, and even though it costs significantly less, it's still a struggle for me to afford. My current supply is set to run out in just 30 days, and I can't afford to purchase more currently. For that reason, I'm very humbly asking for help with replenishing my supply of CGM monitors.

Monitoring my glucose levels is extremely important for my health. It's important because of my diabetes and the role that managing that plays in regard to my health, but it's also important in regard to my kidney function. My nephrologist (kidney) and I are working hard to prevent or forestall me going on dialysis for as long as possible. High sugar levels significantly impact the kidneys and their function, so monitoring my glucose levels are extremely important in that regard. With this assistance I'll be able to continue to afford the monitors that I need so that I can stay healthy going forward. As long as I'm healthy, I'll be able to continue working and will remain self-sufficient. For that, I would like to say 'thank you' in advance to all of the kind and compassionate people who assist me.
