User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeThere are no words to describe my gratitude. I received the notification of my grant as I was pumping gas and headed to work last night. I drove to work with streams of tears coming down my eyes, flooded with an overwhelming sense of love, consideration, and kindness shown towards my family and I. As I thanked God for the generosity you have shown me, I had an immediate feeling of relief come over me. I can truly enjoy my Thanksgiving with a lighter load on my heart because everything will be alright. This program is a blessing and one day I will repay this very same kindness. We all have a story. We all need grace and we all need to work together to be the hands and feet of God. Thank you, from the inner depths of my heart. Truly, and God bless you.

We Fell Behind on Our Electric Bill While Helping Our Family, & We Need Urgent Help Please!

My Story:

I am a married mother of four. My husband and I raise three of our children full-time. As they all still live with us. My kids are a god-send, and they are truly the best part of my life. My youngest in the household is Geneo and he loves to cuddle with me. When I get home from my overnight shift, (and he's just waking up) he's ready to cuddle. When it's time for me to get some shut eye (at 3pm) he cuddles with me until I fall asleep. My daughter Leah is 9 years old. She's always giggling, and she can't go more than a couple of sentences without giggling; laughter truly is a part of her speech. My Jaden is 11 years old. He's so subdued and responsible; it's pretty remarkable for a child his age. I've always been able to talk to him on a mature level, and he's always actively helping around the house (no questions asked). My oldest son, Moose, I only see during extended holidays and summer breaks, but he's 14 years old, so intelligent, and very tall. I love him to pieces and wish I could do more and see him more. My husband Eric is very strong, charismatic, and hard working. My family means everything to me, and I would do anything for any of them.

Our hardship began when I was helping my mother care for my mentally disabled brother and my grandmother who has pre-dementia. They were supposed to stay with us for a couple months until she could find a place that was affordable and within close proximity to me. I knew if she helped pay the rent, she'd never be able to afford to move. So I simply asked that she pay our utility and internet bill, both of which I thought would be far more manageable than our rent. Then, two months turned into four months, and the very day she was to move out, I came home to a dark apartment. The electric bill hadn't been paid, and she had missed two payments. She couldn't help me at that moment because all her money was tied up in her new apartment and moving expenses. My husband and I live check to check, so it's difficult for us to catch up on expenses like these. I had to resort to getting loans to have our electricity turned back on that afternoon. This situation is definitely frustrating, but still, I would help my mother, my brother, and my grandmother in a heartbeat all over again.

As a result of this situation, we're really struggling to keep up with our electric bill again, mainly due to the loans and the interest rates on them I had to take out to get our power back on initially. For that reason, I'm humbly seeking assistance with this bill so that we don't lose our power again.

Growing up in NYC, I knew struggle. I remember not being able to do my homework because we had no lights, and the only way for us to work on schoolwork was for our neighbors to let us run an extension cord through the hallway, so we could use that for our lamp. I don't want my kids to know that side of life. They need to keep smiling, giggling, cuddling and being none the wiser about our struggles. So for their sake, we would be very touched and grateful to everyone who lends us a hand with our electric bill. Thank you in advance for the generosity and kindness you have shown us just by taking the time to read our story.
