This person has left the following thank you note:
From the bottom of my heart, I am sincerely grateful for all of the kindness I have been shown by the donors of modest needs. This grant means the world to me as it will ensure that my child's home will be protected while I continue to improve the areas of the home that I could not get to until the roof was covered. It will also give me a head start toward the roof getting completely repaired in the spring. I know that my child is forever grateful for this extra help we are receiving during this time as well. It moves me to tears knowing that my son and I are on our way to at least some level of normalcy after the destruction that the court system has caused to our lives. I will ensure that I continue to teach my child about kindness and giving back to others as well, as these are values that we hold in our Christian spirit. We will continue to thank God daily in our prayers for the donors and staff of modest needs for all of the help we have received and all of the wonderful people here who have helped us along the way. We will continue to be humble and have gratitude for our home as we share in kindness and strength, knowing all of the adversities we have overcome thanks to the kindness of strangers. Thank you all so very much. With love, Aimee and Eli
I'm Fighting to See my Son Again, but I Need Help with a Roof Repair First Please!
My Story:
I am a single mother and currently live alone while getting my home in proper condition to have my child with me full-time. My son and I have not seen each other in two years because of financial hardships due to ongoing custody issues and poor living conditions. I have done almost every bit of the work to the house myself, except for fixing the leak in our roof which my roofer cannot start until May. I am not comfortable with or experienced enough to get on a three story roof to tarp the leak or make the repair. Getting this job done will ensure that my son's home is protected from water damage while I do the interior work this winter.
Due to the legal fees and chronic stress involved with these ongoing custody issues (which have been going on for at least 6 years), unfortunately I was unable to be in a position financially where I ever thought owning a home would be possible. Last fall, in the heat of the COVID pandemic, I worked as a server while living with family. I fought hard to get as many hours as I could so that I could start putting money away to afford a home. However, keeping up with the physical demands of the job were very difficult, and I could no longer continue. I thought I was going to wind up homeless, but by a miracle, I was able to secure a house for myself through a tax auction. The home was in a state of disrepair for the most part, but I've worked hard to get it into shape. I picked up everything to move to a new town and into my new home, and I even managed to find a job that pays relatively well and that I love. Despite thriving in my new career, I'm not able to earn enough to cover the repairs that need to be made to my roof in order to make my home livable, so I'm seeking assistance with those repairs.
This support will immediately and personally improve my living conditions, reduce my exposure to mold and the elements, and ensure that I can get on the way to weatherization assistance for winter. Most importantly, it will mean that I can finally reunite with my son and have a place for him to live after two years of fighting and scraping by. It's been a long road, and I will never stop fighting to be reunited with my son, but I know that if I'm going to be able to do that, I'll need a helping hand. I would be extremely grateful for that help, and I want to thank everyone who lends me their compassion and kindness in advance.
