Hello, I would like to thank the donors who have funded my request for help. This is really helpful as it will allow me to stop worrying about where to live or being evicted and provide more confidence to my landlord as a tenant. Thank you so much and this means a lot to me and words cannot express how grateful I am. Thanks. Glory

After Losing My Health Insurance through My Job, I'm Struggling to Catch up with My Rent!

My Story:

I'm a 31-year-old woman, and I work part-time at the local university. I'm still in school so that I can finish and gain the required knowledge and skills for my future career, but I also teach and do research to earn a living. On top of working and school, I'm also very active in my church and local community. I like to volunteer my free time to helping out at the veteran's hospital and to helping a daycare that serves children with special needs. I dedicate all my other free time to playing and learning the guitar. My long-term goal is to finish school and to dedicate my career to working with children who have faced mental health problems and trauma growing up because I know what it means to go through that, and I know how important it is to have help.

With my earnings, I am usually able to afford my basic expenses monthly; however, I do not earn enough to have any significant savings. In addition to not having any savings, I also lost work over the summer because my employer could not afford to hire me during that time. I've been struggling to pay for my basic necessities since then. The biggest blow to my financial situation came last year when the university decided not to sponsor a health insurance plan for graduate assistants, thereby forcing me to purchase one independently. It's a mandatory and costly expense that I had trouble affording while I wasn't working over the summer. Ultimately, all of these circumstances have caused me to fall behind on my rent, and so, I'm humbly seeking assistance with catching up before I'm evicted.

This assistance would give me the stability that I need to push through school. After the completion of my education, I will be able to maintain a full-time position which will enable me to save money more effectively and afford unforeseen expenses. Keeping my home is key to me being able to find stability in the near future. I truly believe that if you help someone, then you help everyone. With that being said, I will pay the generosity that I'm shown forward to someone who's in a position like that one I'm in now.
