I am beyond grateful for this head start to get my daughter and I into a new living situation that will benefit us both for years to come. I continue to be in awe of the people who have supported me through my journey of widowhood and who have given a helping hand in our time of need. Bless you all and thank you.

I'm a Gold Star Widow Who Needs Help Covering My Daughter's Daycare Please!

My Story:

I am a 29-year-old single mom of an 8-year-old daughter and a gold star widow after my late husband passed when our child was 9 months old. He was in the Army and served honorably, and I miss him more than I can even try to put into words. I've raised my child and put myself through school to become a medical sales professional but have always barely seemed to make ends meet. I haven't been able to get any assistance from the VA since my husband passed, and I also haven't been eligible for social security benefits that widows are normally afforded either. Apparently, I make too much to qualify for SSA benefits because the threshold is only $18,000 a year.

While I'm used to having to struggle to get by, things have been more difficult lately for my daughter and I. Last year, we moved in with my long-time boyfriend, but the relationship became hostile, and we ended things. He owns the house, and I was paying half of the bills at the time. Now, my daughter and I need to find a rental home soon so that we have somewhere long-term to live. However, right now all of my income is going towards trying to pay for my daughter's day care and our electric bill, so I don't have anything left over to try to pay for a security deposit on a new home for us. I also was furloughed at the beginning of the pandemic, so we don't have a savings to fall back on either.

I'm asking for this assistance because it will give me the chance to finally give my daughter the peace and stability that she needs to succeed. This generous help would free up enough of my income so that I can put down a security deposit on a place for my daughter and I to live. We're living under constant harassment and threats of eviction right now, and we need to find a way out. Thank you all for giving me and my daughter a better future to look forward to again. We will never forget this.
