This person has left the following thank you note:

Words cannot sufficiently express how grateful I am for each of you who has chosen to help me during this desperate time of need. Because of you, I will be able to keep on the utilities for another month and stay in touch with my family, friends, employer, and Mom's skilled nursing facility. Your willingness to help has reminded me that goodness does exist in this world and that people still choose compassion. Again, thank you for your time, thoughtfulness, and selflessness. There is a lot going on in this world, and each of us has a daily battle to fight. With that said, I encourage you to keep moving forward, no matter what. Your work is not in vain. Be blessed and be a blessing!

I'm Caring for My Mother Who Has Dementia but I Need Help with a Phone Bill to Keep Touch with Her!

My Story:

I am a single 31-year-old adjunct voice instructor at a university. For the past three years, I have been the primary caregiver for my adoptive mother, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2018. In 2019, I moved into my mom's home to take care of her health and financial matters. Though I moved back home, I have maintained my part-time teaching job, which is two hours away (one way) from my mom's house. I get paid nine months out of the year, which means I receive no paycheck during the summer and have to rely on savings.

Back in January 2021, a deer hit the front of my car, and I had to take it to a repair shop. The repair shop had my car from January to early July, which means I've had to spend my paychecks on rentals and cabs in addition to my regular monthly expenses. Also, because I made the difficult decision to transition my mother into a skilled nursing home in May, I had to take on unexpected expenses related to her move. I've only been able to visit my mother three times. Needless to say, my savings are drained, and I am struggling. I've fallen behind on both my phone bill and my utility bills, and I'm asking for assistance with paying both of those before they're shut-off.

Because of the additional bills related to Mom's transition to a nursing home (she's in the latter stages of dementia) on top of my car repair bill and regular monthly expenses, I currently cannot afford to pay to keep the lights on, and I'm not able to pay to keep my cell phone service on this month. I have been forced to forgo paying for groceries. I am worried that I will not have running electricity to take care of my basic necessities or be able to stay in contact with my mother's nursing home (I am her attorney-in-fact) or my employer.

For both my sake and my mother's, this assistance would be a tremendous relief financially and it would allow me to continue to be the best son I can be. My mother adopted me, cared for me, and fought hard to give me a good life; now, it's my turn to fight for her, and I can't back down from that no matter how hard things get. If I get this assistance, I'll be able to keep fighting for her, and it will be thanks to your generosity and kindness. That's truly something I could never forget.
