COVID Has Taken a Toll on My Body, but Now It Looks Like It's Going to Leave Us Homeless.
My Story:
I'm a single woman living with my kitten who keeps me company. I'm a special education teacher, and I've been working remotely since the pandemic began in March of last year. I've had a lot of health issues throughout my life, but in December, my health took a serious turn for the worse.
I contracted COVID in December of last year and developed life-threatening pneumatic symptoms as a result. The strain that it put on my body was so severe that it actually led to me having my appendix removed. I was especially susceptible to the virus because two years prior, I had lung surgery after suffering a collapsed lung. Through my entire battle with Covid-19, I had to take about 5 months off from work and lost a lot of income as a result. I went back to work for about a month, and that proved to be very difficult on me. Since school has ended, my health has gotten worse and worse. There are times where I'm unable to catch my breath, where I have incontinence issues, kidney stone issues, and I've even had to begin using a cane to walk at times due to a herniated disc in my back.
But as bad as the toll COVID has taken on my body is, the toll it has taken on my piece of mind is worse. Thanks to all of the medical bills I've had to pay on no salary at all, for the first time in my life, I'm really behind on the rent. My landlord is now threatening to evict me, and if that happens, I'll lose everything, including the job I love so much, because you can't teach from the front seat of your car.
I'm 30 years old, but it feels like I'm living in the body of an 80-year-old. My anxiety is through the roof because doctors just can't seem to figure out what's going on with me, and every time I go to the hospital, I get the same answer: 'Just wait for more testing.' I can't afford to wait for more testing though. I'm doing my best to keep my spirits up and to fight every day, but I'm starting to wear down. This assistance with my rent would do more than help me keep my home and job. It would really lift my spirits keep me on track financially and will allow me to continue to receive the medical care I desperately need. Thank you all for your generosity and for giving me the hope I need to make it through what has become the hardest time of my life.
