This person has left the following thank you note:
I cannot express just how truly grateful my son and I are. I literally sat on the floor and cried. The weight that you have taken of my shoulders is enormous. I feel like I can take a breath and not have the constant what ifs, at least for the moment. I know the world is full of good people, but things like this, you just never feel will happen. Thank you for reminding me that I am NOT alone, people DO care and that with a little help, I WILL overcome these trying times and hopefully be able to be someone else's angel in the future. Your time and generosity will not be wasted. Thank you, thank you!! You are truly making a difference in the lives of me and my son.
I Beat Cancer, Then Lost Work to COVID. Please Help Us Keep Our Home!
My Story:
I am a single mom of 3 boys. My oldest 2 have moved out, so now it's just me and my 14-year-old son. The last couple of years have been hard on him, but in spite of that, he just always does his best. He's been doing virtual school since COVID started, and he still finished this year with a 4.25 GPA! He was one of the only kids to participate every day with his camera on. He thrives on knowledge and fun facts, and he tells me one every day! He's a really wonderful child who just excels in school, and I feel so incredibly privileged to be his mother. When I'm not learning new facts from my son, I am being whipped on by our dog, Dottie --literally! Her tail is always on maximum, and she has no respect for personal space so she's always wacking us with her tail.
I've always worked hard to provide for my family, and I work as the manager of a warehouse that carries flooring products and other home improvement products. Before the pandemic, I was battling Thyroid Cancer and had just beaten it when COVID hit. My main job started furloughed people and while I was lucky to stay, my salary went to hourly, and my hours were cut. So, I went out and got multiple other jobs, and worked harder than ever before. However, my body caught up and started to fall apart. My thyroid levels have been all over the place, my knees are shot, I have no energy but can't sleep, and my brain is constantly foggy. I had to scale back my workload and quit all of my jobs except my main one. Thankfully, it went back to full-time in terms of my hours at least, but we're still struggling. On top of the issues with employment, we've recently had our oven go out, and I'm still facing medical bills from my battle with cancer. We just don't have enough to afford both the rent and these bills. If these bills go to collections, they'll ruin my credit for years, so I've been paying on those first. But now I'm behind on the rent, and our landlord says we're out of time. If I can't catch up, we're going to be evicted, but I have absolutely no way to come up with that much money in time to save our home. So I'm here asking with our rent.
If you can help us keep our home, you'd really be changing the course of my family's life. Thanks to you, we'd be able to make it through these difficult times without losing everything, and for that, my son and I would be extremely grateful. Thank you all for looking out for my son and I and for taking the time to read our story. We will never forget this.
