This person has left the following thank you note:
I honestly don't know what to say. There's a part of me that doesn't believe the empathy and care people have towards a perfect stranger. Words come up short but honestly, thank you, truly. You have no idea the immense help this is. To have stability in these crazy times we're living, from personal hardships to Covid, and still there are those that are willing to help. You are amazing and I appreciate you all so very much. Very respectfully, Yamil Marrero
I'm a Veteran Who Has Faced Homelessness & I Need Help Moving Please!
I'm a Navy & Army Reserves disabled veteran. I have fought homelessness for years (5+). I've slept in cars, hidden in elevator rooms at work just to not sleep on the street when a homeless shelter wasn't available. It took a lot of convincing for me to seek help, mental health and medical help that I needed, and it changed my life. I've finally been able to get my life back on track after working to get healthcare through the VA, and I've also managed to secure section 8 housing as well. I've been able to stay off the streets for the past few years, and I've been able to get back into my daughter's life as well. Two years ago, I promised I'd never miss another one of her birthdays and thanks to this newfound stability I've been able to do that.
Right now, my biggest goal is to return to somewhere where I have more of a support system but living on a fixed income makes that more difficult. The cost of moving is too much for me to be able to handle on my own, but I desperately need to find a place where I can maintain my support system. I'm under a lot of pressure to move because my lease is nearly up, and I won't be able to renew it at a rate that's sustainable for me. That's why I'm humbly asking for help with the cost of moving please.
I'm scared that without this help, I could be homeless again and sink back into a cycle of poverty that I don't know I would be able to escape from again. More than anything this help will allow me to keep m promise to my daughter, and it'll give me the opportunity to be a part of her life. As a father, there's nothing more that I want in my life than for my daughter to be proud of me. I can't even begin to put into words how much this would mean to me. Thank you all for your support and generosity.
