My Story:
I'm a single mom of two boys, ages 1 and 4 years old. My 4-year-old will be starting kindergarten soon and loves sports. My 1-year-old just took his first steps on his birthday the other day, and it was a really magical moment for me as a mother. I work hard to provide for my children, but the pandemic has been rough on us, so I'm working part-time 3-4 hours a day doing food service work at a local hospital.
I'm an essential worker now, so I feel more secure in terms of being able to keep my job; however, my kids and I tested positive for Covid-19 back in March, and I briefly lost my job due to a miscommunication. Thankfully, HR was able to resolve that and allowed me to return to work again, but since then, we've been behind on our rent and haven't been able to find a way to catch up. I'm really worried that we'll be evicted before I can manage to catch up because I only just got my first paycheck last week. We live in a state where evictions have been ramping up too, so I'm worried that we won't be protected from being behind for much longer. So, for the sake of my children, I'm humbly asking for help with paying our rent that we owe.
Now that I'm back to work, we should be able to handle all of our bills, but I'm concerned that if we lose our home, we'll never be able to recover. Even the thought of my two children being out on the streets scares me to death, and I can't imagine how we would ever come back from that. They're too young to understand what's going on, but I know they can feel my stress and anxiety too. As a mother, I would be so grateful to get this relief with our rent, and I know that it would be what sees us through this difficult time to a better future for my kids and I. For that, I want to say thank you to everyone who helps us keep our home. I promise that my children will grow up knowing the story of this time when people came together to help us when we needed it most.
