This person has left the following thank you note:
This week I was more worried and totally stressed out than ever, not knowing what to do as it seemed I had exhausted all of my options and reached out to any and all resources I could. This evening I got a notification about my modest needs application, which had 4 points This morning, saying that it has been fully funded. I cannot express how thankful I am for this generous grant to help keep a roof over my babies head. I know there are many others who need assistance and I am privileged to have found a way to get help. I will certainly tell anyone who will listen about how grateful I am for this blessing. Thank you to all of the people who read my story whether they chose to fund it or keep scrolling, the world needs more people thay listen.
I Lost Work Due to Covid & am Behind on the Rent. Our Landlord is Evicting Us This Week.
My Story:
I'm a single mother of two beautiful babies, a son who's 8 years old and a daughter who's 5 years old. The past few years have been a time of adjustment for them. In 2018 we lost our home to a hurricane, and then relatively recently, their father and I split. Now, they split time between me and their father, and it's been tough for them to adjust but they're managing better and better each day. They're fiercely loyal to each other, and they love to spend time together outdoors practicing their karate.
Currently, I work part-time as a cleaner, and I'm a full-time student and am taking classes online in order to graduate with a degree in legal studies. When the pandemic began, I lost a lot of work because I had to stop working to protect my children, but I also had to protect my father who I take care of as well. I see him on a daily basis, and honestly, he takes care of us as much as I take care of him. He has a weakened immune system after being exposed to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War, and his doctor went as far as to tell him point-blank that he wouldn't survive a Covid-19 infection. Thankfully, we were all recently vaccinated and have been able to return to work and to school. However, as a result of being out of work for a while, I've fallen behind on our rent and am worried that we could lose our home.
Our landlord has been the opposite of helpful during this situation and has been looking to evict us for any reason they can find. We're protected by the moratorium currently, but that hasn't stopped our landlord from trying to evict us. I'm really worried about losing our home because we don't have many options to choose from in terms of where to go if we're evicted. After a nasty hurricane season, we're facing a housing shortage here, and the options for moving are slim. That's why I'm humbly asking for help with our past due rent.
I have a new job offer secured in a different county, so I'm trying to get to a point where we're stable enough to relocate and getting this help would be a huge step in that direction. We'll be able to get current just as we're trying to move on, and that will keep us from having an eviction on our record which would make it almost impossible to relocate. Thank you all for taking the time to consider us and for taking the time to read our story.
