User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeI would LOVE to thank you for helping me in my crisis. Your help will keep me from living in the dark. I was so confused and depressed because every place I applied denied me but you gave me hope and relieved pressure from me. You encouraged me to want to help people like myself in the future. I will NEVER forget the love that was giving to me. My heart is filled with joy and my eyes with happy tears. This blessing renewed my faith once again.

COVID Has Forced Me to Cut My Hours Back, & We Need Help Catching Up on Our Power Bill Please!

My Story:

I'm a Direct Support Professional, and I work for a group that provides care for women with down syndrome, autism, and other disabilities. I'm very proud to do what I do, and I love my job and my clients. It's a very rewarding job because I love to help others, and it's also allowed me and my partner to live comfortable enough lives. My partner is unable to work due to health issues, so I'm the sole provider for my household. In addition to providing for my partner and I, I also help my son take care of my grandson who has Dandy-Walker Syndrome. It's difficult work to bring in enough to make sure I can meet all of our needs and obligations, but I've always managed to do it.

However, the pandemic took our situation from difficult to impossible. Nurses at my job and other members of my clients' households started to test positive for Covid-19, so I had to stop working as many hours as possible because of a lack of clients. I have underlying health concerns that would make Covid-19 extremely dangerous to me if I caught it, not to mention my partner who also has risky underlying conditions. As a result of losing out on this work, we started to get behind on a lot of our bills. Right now, we're behind on our rent but are protected by the CDC moratorium, despite the many protests of our landlord. However, we're also behind on our electric bill, and I'm worried that could be shut-off if we can't pay soon.

This help would get us out of a serious bind financially by doing two things. First, we wouldn't have to worry about our electricity being shut-off, and second, we could use income that we were going to put towards our electric bill towards getting all the way caught up on our rent. This would give us a fresh start right as I'm beginning to pick up more hours at work, and we would be in a really good position going forward. I would also just like to say 'thank you' to everyone who helps us get back on our feet.
