Our Sons Have Muscular Dystrophy & We Need Help Remodeling Our Bathroom For Their Safety!

My Story:

I'm a married mother with two boys at home, ages 12 and 9 years old. Our two sons have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and they require special care and assistance to manage their disabilities. I couldn't ask for a better partner than my husband to help me care for our two boys. He's a very loving and caring father, and we both do our best to care for our sons' needs.

Recently, we applied for and were accepted by a state program that offered to redo our bathroom to better accommodate our son who's in a wheelchair. However, they didn't do the job properly, and to be honest, they left the bathroom worse off than it was before in terms of what my son needs. Now, we have to pay out of pocket to get our restroom fixed, but we don't have enough to do that and make our house payment. We're already in forbearance, and we can't afford to lose our home because it's been designed around our son's wheelchair accessibility. If we're forced out of our home, then wherever we go, he won't be able to live properly. We're in a really difficult spot because we can't afford our house payment and these bathroom repairs, and we desperately need both for the sake of our sons.

I'm humbly asking for help with the bathroom repairs because that will allow us to get our son what he needs while also being able to hold onto our home. We're worried that with the current setup of the bathroom, he could slip in the shower and injure himself severely. There are issues of safety, but there are also issues of independence too. We want him to be able to live his life as independently as possible, and this assistance would really allow him to do that.

I can't even begin to say how crucial this assistance with this remodel would be for us. It would do so many things for my family, and I don't know how we could ever repay that kind of generosity. This would be something that we remember forever, and I promise that we will live every day to the fullest thanks to this help. Thank you all for taking the time to even consider our story and thank you for you compassion and kindness.
