We Lost my Husband Years Ago & Have Struggled. Now, COVID is Making It Impossible to Get By!
My Story:
I'm a single mother with three beautiful children at home with me still. They lost their father a few years back now, and it's been difficult for us to cope with his loss sense then. My late husband served in the US Army but was medically discharged. Upon being discharged he began to suffer heavily from depression and eventually that led him to take his own life in 2012. I don't think my family will ever recover from the hole that we all have in our hearts after losing him, but we've all done our best to take care of each other, and my children have truly done everything they can to lift me up after his passing.
Since losing him, we have struggled a great deal financially as well. My two oldest are adults now and do what they can to help me take care of our expenses and my youngest son who is autistic and requires extra care. I live on a fixed income from social security due to a disability I have, and my son was recently laid-off due to Covid-19. He also struggles with a bleeding disorder and has been unable to find work as a result. Currently, only one of my children is working part-time, so we've been having a difficult time making sure all of the bills are taken care of. With all of my kids at home, our energy bill has skyrocketed, and we're having trouble taking care of it as a result.
We're behind on a lot of our bills including our mortgage, but I'm worried that this one will be more damaging to us in the short-term because if we lose our electricity, then I don't know what we'll do. We would be in the dark for months trying to afford catching up. This assistance would be huge for my family, and it would do a lot to restore the sense of hope that's been hard to come by since I lost my husband, and my children lost their father. I want to say 'thank you' to everyone who gives us a hand during this difficult time because this help will make a huge long-term impact on my family.
