I Lost My Job to COVID & Have Fallen Behind on Rent. Now, Without Help, We're Going to Lose Our Home
My Story:
I'm a devoted single mother, and I am raising two daughters on my own. My 15-year-old is an honor-roll student who loves to dance and spend time at the beach with her friends. My younger daughter is 11 years old and is a true artist who was born to draw; she's amazingly talented and creative.
I've always been able to take care of my small family no matter what, but since I lost hours and then lost my job to Covid-19, it's been hard to get by. I was working at an engineering company, and as the pandemic began and intensified my hours were cut. In October, the company I was working for had suffered huge losses and had to lay off a lot of its staff, and I was included in that lay-off. I've been out of work since then, and the unemployment benefits haven't been nearly enough to replace the income that I lost. As a result, we're significantly behind on our rent, and we need help catching up to a certain point where we can apply for pandemic-related rent relief. The minimum rent you have to have paid is 25% of what you owe, and we have no way of getting to that point on our own, so I'm asking for help to get us there so that the rent relief can take care of the rest of what we owe.
If we can get 25% of what we owe paid to our landlord, then we'll be able to keep our home. This assistance would get us there, and for that, we couldn't be more thankful. I'm really scared that we're going to be evicted if we can't get to that threshold, and if that happens, we don't have anywhere to go at all. This would keep my girls and I in our home, and we want to thank everyone who helps us do that. Thank you all for your support and compassion during these difficult times.
