Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

Words can't express how grateful I am. This past year has been very difficult for our family--the pandemic hit, my husband and I were both unemployed, we had two children under two, we were unable to afford a place of our own and so moved in with family. Just as we were starting to regain a footing with a new home, Snowpocalypse hit central Texas. We were trapped inside for two weeks, my husband lost his restaurant job, and our ability to pay rent vanished (along with the heat). But the good thing about this last year is that despite the world falling to pieces, so many people have been willing to help. Thanks to our friends and neighbors, we had plenty of food, a roof over our heads, clothes for the children, even secondhand furniture when we needed some. I'm humbled and amazed by the generosity of so much people, especially so many people I don't know. Thank you again for helping us stay in our home. Thank you again for helping, in general. The world will be okay, I think. JS

The Snowstorm That Hit Texas Is Threatening to Make Us Homeless!

My Story:

I'm a mother with two toddlers at home. My boyfriend, their father, and I live together and work hard to care for them together. They're both energetic and full of life, and we're really thankful for them. Their father worked in the restaurant industry before Covid-19 but was laid-off back in March of last year. I've been working full-time hours from home since the pandemic began, and I'm thankful to still have kept a job through all of this.

My girl's father managed to find work again recently at another restaurant, but we were hit by that huge snowstorm recently and were snowed in for more than a week. He lost a lot of hours and income, and then the restaurant was permanently closed. He's out of work again, and as a result, we're going to come up short on our rent for this next month. We're also facing extremely high utility bills like the rest of our state, so I'm worried that will cut into our already limited income even further. I'm asking for help with our rent because I know that we'll come up short and will be in danger of being evicted if we don't get help.

Our state has been through a lot in the past few weeks, and that snowstorm really turned a precarious situation into a really bad crisis. We're seriously in danger of losing our home after my boyfriend is out of work again. It's hard because we worked so hard to get back on our feet after Covid-19, and then this storm hits and destroys all the progress we made. We feel like we're starting back at square one, and we need some help if we're going to get off the ground again. We'll be able to keep our home with this help, and we'll be able to quite literally weather this storm. I know we have what it takes to get back on our feet again, but I also know we'll need a hand to get there. That being said, we would be incredibly grateful to receive this help, and we want to thank everyone who helps us keep our home for your kindness and generosity during a really dark time for our state.
