After Being Attacked by Dogs, the Medical Bills are Going to Ruin My Small Family! Please Help.
My Story:
I'm a single mother, and I have an amazing 10-year-old boy. He's very smart and loves video games, and we've both been through a lot recently. Not too long ago, he lost his best friend, our beloved family pet of 13 years, after he was hit by a car. His name was Grunt, and I used to say he was my first-born because I had him some years before my son, and he was like a brother to my son. Grunt kept my son safe at night and made him feel safer when I had to work late. A little over five years ago, we lost my child's father to suicide, and our family hasn't been the same since. It's been hard to deal with his loss, and being a single mother working full-time is difficult, but I would do anything for my son, no matter how hard it is.
Recently, I was attacked by our neighbor's dogs after they broke through our fence while I was doing maintenance in the backyard. They broke through the fence before I even realized what had happened, and before I knew it, they were biting my leg to the point where I needed to go to the emergency room. I still have scars from the attack. I filed a small claim, but the homeowner's insurance doesn't cover dog attacks, and on top of that, my neighbor has been completely unwilling to cooperate with me on these bills. I can't afford to sue him directly because I don't have the money for legal fees or the time to miss work to appear in court. I'm barely making it as is, and I just don't have the income to pay for these costly medical bills. My goal is to eventually buy my son and I a house someday because we just really need that stability in our lives after everything we've been through. However, if these medical bills go to collections, I'll never be able to rebuild my credit and could have my wages garnished, causing us to fall behind in other areas as well.
I'm humbly asking for help with these medical bills because they'll ruin my credit, destroying my dreams and income in the process. I'm frustrated with the legal system, but I still have faith that there are kind people out there. To know that there are people looking out for me and my son would give us a renewed sense of hope. We want to thank everyone who helps us in advance for taking the time to read our story and for giving us the chance to hold onto the stability that we've finally found.
