I'm a First Responder Who Lost Hours due to COVID. I'm Behind on Rent & I'll Homeless Without Help!
My Story:
I'm a single mom, and I have raised two brilliant young men who are both in college now. I couldn't be prouder of my sons and the men that they have become. They both are attending school and playing football, so that's my favorite sport to watch now. I love cheering them on and watching with them too when I have free time. However, I work as a first responder, and I drive ambulances so, as you could imagine, my life is pretty hectic sometimes. I absolutely love what I do and wouldn't trade it for any other job.
Despite the fact that I'm a first responder and an essential worker, my hours were cut due to a decrease in call volume as a result of the pandemic. I have lost nearly 15 hours a week, and this has significantly decreased my income, hurting my ability to make ends meet for my sons and I as a result. Losing these hours has gotten me behind on my rent, and I can't seem to catch up no matter how hard I try. We didn't have anything saved before the pandemic and were living paycheck to paycheck, so now it is extremely difficult to deal with losing income.
My apartment complex was working with us in regard to our rent, but I know their patience has worn thin and that we will be evicted if we can't get the funds together to pay our rent. That is why I am asking for help with our rent now. I work hard every day to make sure we have enough to get by, but when there's no work it makes it impossible to do that even when I work as hard as I can. We need help getting caught up again, and I know that if we can just do that, then we can make it through this time.
