Coronavirus: Furloughed and Struggling to Pay Rent
My Story:
I am a single mother of a sweet and loving 10 year old boy. He loves to skateboard, draw and his presence alone makes the days go by easier. I work part-time and attend school with anticipation to further my career and earn a degree in nursing.
I have been the sole provider for my son and did not have financial savings prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic. I previously lived with a roommate which made paying rent and bills easier to afford. Before the COVID pandemic, I was forced to get an order of protection against my roommate due to safety concerns for my son and I. The Emergency OP resulted in my roommate breaking the lease and moving out. To avoid being evicted, I had to assume full responsibility of the rent and utilities, as she no longer was paying her portion. My lease is up at the end of July and with no income the past 3 months, I am not sure how I will be able to afford moving to a new place. Though things have been very difficult the past few months, I have refused to let my son know about the situation, as I do not want him to worry that we will lose our place to live or that I am stressed out. I am now asking Modest Needs for help to pay for my rent.
This funding will help to keep my rent current and will allow for me to save the money I earn when I resume work this month. It will keep my son from having to know about the financial struggle I am currently facing and would truly help me in ways beyond words that I can express. I had my son when I was 16 and as a single mother I have always struggled, but this pandemic put me at rock bottom. It is reassuring and gives me hope knowing that there are foundations that help those in need during times that seem desolate.
