User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeThere aren't enough words to describe the feeling I got when an email arrived from Modest Needs today. I was struck with the most glorious thought that humanity hasn't yet lost its main ingredients- empathy, community, selflessness and love. I had all but given up hopes that I would receive any of the (half dozen or more) grants I'd applied for after being placed on furlough by my hotel in March. I have now been on said furlough for nearly seven months, applied for no less than fifty jobs and still struggle with no leads. The isolation alone is enough to make any of us crazy especially since I spent the last fifteen years running around a kitchen forty hours per week, but the financial aspect of this crazy new world I find myself in is really starting to make my brain and heart hurt. I live alone with my two cats and their jobs just don't pay the bills. This grant will be the hero of my nearing future, it just may be the help that pushes me through until I (hopefully) return to my position with my employer or figure out what comes next without having to fall too far behind on my bills. I am absolutely and awesomely appreciative to any person who's contributed the funds which Modest Needs is helping to facilitate for me. I hope that I will be in the position to pay it forward one day soon(er than later, surely). Thank you, gracias, grazie, gratias tibi. Peace & gratitude to all, Ren. P.s. Stay safe out there. We find ourselves in a dangerous time.

Coronavirus: A Single Woman Needs Rent Help

My Story:

I am a single lady with three cats who I love very much! Some of my other loves include music and dancing. These are activities that I am normally too tired to get into during evenings after work but have been able to really focus more energy into since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

The short-term financial hardship I seem to be facing is largely due to the fact that I live paycheck to paycheck and do not have a lot in savings, which would help as another income source to fall back on. The small amount of savings I did have was spent on stocking up with supplies and food when the stay-at-home orders were issued. Recently, one of my cats has also been sick and I have needed to spend some money to take care of her which has dented my savings a bit as well. I now need help paying for my rent.

In the long-term, receiving this funding would help me in several ways. One of the first things that comes to mind is the stress relief this will give me, which is a big deal for me as I suffer from anxiety and depression. The less stress I feel, the more confidence I have that things will be okay despite all of the chaos in our world. I have fought a battle with my mental health for many years and in each battle, I picked up some skills on how to care for myself no matter what. With everything I've said, having all or any portion of my rent generously taken care of would very likely be the help I need to stay current on my bills until I start receiving reemployment assistance benefits. Thank you for your help and kindness.
