This person has left the following thank you note:
I really appreciate this help. Since the beginning of the pandemic I have gone from furloughed to permanently laid off. I was working in a restaurant, so my career is very uncertain right now, and I worry about how long I'll be unemployed. This is a huge relief and gives me a little more time to figure it out. I've tried to make the most of this time, volunteering at a food pantry, because I'm very mindful that there are so many people struggling right now, and time is something I can give freely. I'm thankful that you gave so generously. Best, Corinne
Restaurant server furloughed and in isolation:need help with rent
My Story:
I'm a single server in a restaurant and I work part time at a wedding event venue. Both have been closed indefinitely due to COVID-19. I live alone with my dog and two cats. I've been using the time to cook, take dog on walks, volunteer for a local food pantry/charity, spring clean, read, and watch Netflix.
I don't have a safety net, so wasn't prepared to be out of work. I also normally get 1-2 meals a day at the restaurant, so my grocery bills have gone up substantially. Since being furloughed I'm not making enough to pay all my bill. I need Modest Needs help paying my one month of rent.
Long-term one month's rent will be the difference between my keeping my apartment or falling so far behind that I have to move out. I've struggled with depression most of my adult life, and think that having my own space is a big part of maintaining some equilibrium. I know a month's rent can't change the world, but it would allow me to be ahead instead of further in a hole, both financially and mentally. Thank you.
