Autistic & Deaf Child Needs Strobe Fire Alarms

My Story:

I am a married 26 year old, and a mom of two sons. My oldest is 2.5 and my youngest is almost 1 year old. We have a dog named Nemo. I used to work as an event planner until I had my two kids, now I am a part-time worker in data entry from home. My husband works in customer service for a solar department in a utilities company. My oldest has severe bilateral hearing loss, level 2 autism spectrum disorder, global developmental delay, and sensory processing disorder. My youngest son has moderate bilateral hearing loss.

When we purchased our house we were both full-time employees, and made 75% more annually than we currently make. After our oldest son was diagnosed with hearing loss and speech delay, I had to start working less hours in order to attend all of his appointments, which drastically cut our income. Soon after this we found out we were pregnant with our second, despite being on birth control. During the pregnancy our oldest was diagnosed with his SPD, which caused me to switch jobs and work from home, which cut our income even more. My husband then worked 2 jobs for a year to cover our expenses. We live paycheck to paycheck with very little savings set aside. Our county board recently purchased 3 strobe fire alarms for our kids since they have hearing loss and without their hearing aids (during a bath, while sleeping, etc) they may not hear our current smoke detectors. However, our county board does not pay for installation. We need Modest Needs help to cover our fire alarm system bill.

This funding will protect both of our children, but more so our oldest son who cannot protect himself. This would help us to stay current on our bills, continue providing for our kids appropriately, and not fall behind on medical bills. This would help us have peace of mind that we live in a safe home for our kids in the case of a fire and from our backyard - both our train tracks and our neighbors' dog. We often teach our kids to give back to the community by donating to our local food pantries, writing letters to nursing homes, and more. I only hope that someone can help us in this time of need. Thank you.
