All Gifts NOW Matched to $50K! Help Hourly Workers Who Won't be Paid as We Work to Contain COVID-19.
My Story:
Aside from those persons who've actually been infected by the Coronavirus, the persons in the United States who've been most directly impacted by this pandemic are hourly employees - ESPECIALLY persons working in the travel & hospitality industries.
Over the past several weeks, these people - hotel & restaurant workers, airline employees, and others in similar positions - have seen their schedules (and their paychecks) cut dramatically as more and more people choose to stay home in an effort to contain the Coronavirus. But these folks can't just 'work from home,' as many of us have been advised to do. If, for example, a server at a restaurant can't work because the restaurant is temporarily closed or has no business, that server just doesn't get paid. And without that income, these hard-working people simply can't pay their most critical, basic expenses - including (and especially) rent.
At Modest Needs, we've already received hundreds of requests for help from hourly employees in this position. We're processing those as quickly as we can, but in the meantime, we're launching this program to help hourly employees whose livelihoods are being threatened by the coronavirus. We'll use all contributions made to this fund to get IMMEDIATE help to hourly employees in danger of becoming homeless due to the economic impact of this pandemic. And best of all, thanks to a VERY generous grant, the first $25,000 in contributions to this fund will be matched 100%!
In the midst of this worldwide crisis, we'd like to ask that you PLEASE dig deep and and support these low-income, hourly workers to the greatest extent that you can, especially when your gift is being matched. We look forward to hearing from you soon, but in the meantime, thank you so very much for your kindness, generosity, and support of the hard-working hourly employees whose incomes have been cut to nothing as we work to contain this outbreak.
