Single Title 1 Teacher Needs Rent Help After Car Repairs and Medical Bills
My Story:
Hello! My name is Jessica. I'm described by myself and others as being very determined, positive-minded (I look at the glass half full, and not half empty), and passionate. I teach two classes at a Title 1 public school as a 5th Grade Science, Literacy, and Social Studies Lateral Entry teacher. As a single woman living in an apartment and having only one income, it becomes difficult to make ends meet at times, especially when unexpected expenses occur. Having to make payments on all of my regular expenses as well as the supplies I sometimes have to buy for the classroom makes it very hard to save for emergencies.
During the summer of 2019, my car battery died unexpectedly and I had to pay close to $400 to replace my battery. As a teacher, I do not get paid during the summer since students are on summer break during that time. Within my school district, the last pay I receive before summer is in May and I won't receive my next check until Aug 31st; therefore, what little funds that I did have set aside for food expenses and bills, had to go towards my vehicle's unexpected expenses. Meanwhile, this summer, I experienced a terrible flareup of chronic uriticaria, which results in severe allergies that cause a person to have severe hive outbreaks that regular allergy medicine can't help. When my body experiences the hive outbreaks to that extreme, I have to go to either the urgent care or allergy doctor immediately. I had to do this several times during the summer, and each time I went, it cost me at least $90, plus the out-of-pocket I had to pay for prescription medicine. After a summer of car repairs and medical expenses all while I was living off savings with no income, I finally got behind on my rent. I've been a month behind since August. If I can't catch up soon, I'm going to end up evicted.
If Modest Needs could please help me catch up on my rent, it would change my life. I could get back to saving & would be able to have a sense of security that if I were to have an unexpected financial problem, I would be able to pay for it. Being that I am a single woman and have only one source of income it can be difficult to make ends meet when unexpected financial situations arise, and the last few months have been really hard for me both financially and emotionally through no fault of my own. If you would please consider helping me to get back on track, I would be very grateful. Thank you.
