This person has left the following thank you note:

Your generosity during my time of need means so much to me. And it is a huge stress relief. I was worried about possibly facing an eviction and trying desperately to figure out where I would go and what I would do. And that is no longer something I need to worry about thanks to all of you who offered your assistance. It is often so hard to ask for help and yet so many people are willing to if you only ask. My recovery from surgery has taken longer than expected and I suffered for a number of years from debilitating pain. This surgery was necessary and has given me my life back. I look forward to paying this generosity forward in terms of volunteer opportunities in my community. Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart!

I Was Forced to Have Emergency Surgery & Missed Work. Please Don't Let My Landlord Evict Me!

My Story:

I am a single woman living on my own right now. I moved to Maine 3 years ago and love both my job & being close to the ocean!

For the past 20 years, I've been struggling with a disease called endometriosis. The disease creates all kinds of stomach pain and can lead to terrible complications (like having to use a colostomy bag) if not treated. After numerous tests, procedures and 4 previous surgeries, I had to have surgery to help correct the endometriosis & was out of work for five weeks. I start back to work next week, but in the meantime, I've lost a full month's pay & haven't been able to pay my rent this month. My landlord is a nice person, but rules are rules, and she's told me that if I can't pay the rent by the end of the month, she'll have no choice but to evict me.

Now that I've had this surgery, I'm feeling much better, and in terms of health, my life is looking up for the first time in a VERY long time. But none of this is going to matter if I lose my apartment before I get back to work. I got my official eviction papers today, and I know it's really short notice, but if you could please help me with rent, I'd be very grateful to you, and one way or the other, I will DEFINITELY pay this forward. A social worker told me about this website and what you're doing You guys are all amazing and just knowing you're out there has already made my life better. Thank you for taking action to help those who need you most.
