Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

I am forever grateful for having found this wonderful organization and for being funded to get my power bill paid and up to date. This was the first time I was unable to work my way through a financial predicament and I felt so hopeless reaching out for help and was not eligible for assistance. This organization has renewed my faith that there are good, understanding people who care. I plan to make a small donation to this organization a monthly occurrence so that I may pass on the generosity and grace given to me when I needed it most. Thank you so much. Happy Holidays!

Fighting to Recover From Short Term Leave Due to Back and Hip Problems

My Story:

I am a 46 year old divorced woman with no children. I live in a small own in Southern Illinois in a modest house with my boxer dog. I work full time at a call center 30 miles away from mine and on weekends, I work part time at a liquor store. After college, instead of moving to a better area with opportunities, I needed to stay due to my moms health. She is now 87 years old and has advanced dementia and Alzheimers. My dream is to one day escape Illinois and start over in another state.

I have always needed to work 2 jobs in order to get by and Ive always lived paycheck to paycheck. I have chronic back issues and when spells of inflammation occur, I self-care and work through the pain. In September I woke up to unbearable pain in my left hip. It was determined to be Sciatica. The pain made sitting at my desk all day impossible and my doctor ordered me unable to work both jobs. For two weeks, I watched helplessly as bills piled up and became late. Even though I was still in pain, I had the doctor release me to go back to work on October 4th. I am slowly, but surely digging myself out but it will be months before my finances return to the good standing I have maintained for over 20 years. I am asking for Modest Needs help to pay my power bill.

Im in routine contact with all utilities and thankfully, they are all working with me patiently until my accounts are current. However, Im still receiving disconnect notices from my power company. Im terrified that my power will be shut off in the middle of the winter. This funding for my power bill will bring all of my household bills current again. It would save me months of worry and anxiety as I work to pay it off. Also, assistance with this utility would free up funds to restock much needed groceries in the house instead of eating day to day.
