User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeThere are no words to appropriately express how grateful my family and I for your financial support. The year 2019 was an extremely rough year for us. My husband lost his job and has been unable to find a new one. I had two falls that resulted in five broken bones, two surgeries, and many missed work hours. We were fortunate enough to have good medical insurance that covered the majority of my medical expenses. I am basically the only source of income in our household and we had some extreme financial struggles because of this. Fortunately, I discovered this wonderful organization Modest Needs Foundation! My family and I are feeling very blessed to have received the support from all of the fantastic and caring donors. Please know that your donations prevented an eviction and allowed us to continue to facilitate transportation to and from medical appointments and to both of my jobs when I was ultimately medically cleared to return to work. Thank you again! We strongly believe in Paying It Forward and will do so in all possible ways. Love to all!

I Work in Special Ed. I Broke My Back This Summer & Missed Work. Now We're About to Lose Our Home

My Story:

I have been married to my husband for almost 33 years. I was previously married and had three children with my first husband. I was widowed at 23 when their biological father was killed in an auto accident. A year and a half later, my older sister died in a fire, leaving four children behind. I decided that I would raise them as my own. Shortly thereafter, I met and married my current husband. He's a truly remarkable man. He married a widow with 7 kids between the ages of 2 and 9. We've been happily married ever since. Today, all of our kids are grown, and we now even have some grandchildren. But we have one daughter with special needs who continues to live with us. She's 38 years old, and we continue to care for her because she cannot take care of herself.

Our family knows how to handle a struggle with a smile, but the last few months have been extra hard for us. First, my husband's job was cut in March. Unemployment was minimal and short in duration, and he continues to look for another job, but my husband teaches art, and jobs in his field are hard to come by. Normally, this wouln't be a huge problem because I'm the primary breadwinner in the family (I work in special ed), but during the summer, I fell in our kitchen and broke my L-1 vertebrae. I went almost a month with severe pain, could barely walk, and ended up needing surgery to fix my back. I missed the first part of school this year, and by the time I got to work, we were very behind on our bills. I've managed to catch up on most of those at this point, but we're still behind on rent, and our landlord has told us we have two weeks to get current or we'll be evicted. I'm still recovering from my back injury, and we still have our disabled daughter to think of, so I just can't let that happen. I've been every agency I can think of, but everybody says we don't qualify for help because I can work. I was referred to Modest Needs by a local agency, and I'm hoping you please help us catch up on our rent before we lose our home.

Receiving the funding for our rent would be a real lifesaver for our family. It would keep a roof over our head, give my husband more time to find a new job, and allow me to continue to work while I continue to heal. It will allow us to catch up on our car payments so I can continue to drive to work. It will allow us to pay most of what we owe on medical bills. And most importantly, it'll let us keep caring for our disabled adult child in the way she deserves. We really need a miracle now. I'm hoping Modest Needs is the miracle I've been looking for. your help would mean more to our family than I could possibly expiress. Thank you for anything you can do.
